City officials said that the city was taking proactive steps in an effort to keep water rates as low as possible for citizens. The city is drilling a test water well and if successful, the test could lead to a second city water well.

The city is currently negotiating their contract with Tyler on a new water contract. Whitehouse officials have said they would like a short-term contract, but Tyler is pushing for a 25 year deal.
�It�s been a long time coming,� said Whitehouse City Manager Ronny Fite of the new test well, which is located off Railroad Avenue, just south of the city�s recycling center.
